Presented by BCP Theater and Events Center, Witness this tale of Good vs. Evil, as told through two competing Medicine Shows. Hear ye, hear ye! You’ll be Astounded!
You’ll be Amazed! You’ll be Electrified!

We Need A Marketing Director!

If you know anything about the history of BCP, then you know the progress we have made since its inception is through volunteers. Boquete has an amazing amount of ability, talent and energy in its inhabitants and we are calling on you once again, to help us out.

We are in desperate need of a Marketing Director. The term is for one year, and here are the responsibilities as taken from the by-laws:

The marketing director plans and organizes new events and activities to encourage use of the theater and meeting facilities to promote appreciation and understanding of the arts; and, generate revenue. In addition, he or she maintains the list of members and member’s information; oversees the collection of membership dues; chairs the Membership Committee; solicits new members and encourages renewals at selected foundation events; and, plans parties, events and benefits for the members. This position also oversees the publicity efforts and blog of the organization.

If that sounds like work, listen up — you have people to help you! You have a Membership Chairperson who handles all member information data-keeping and actively solicites new members. Your Marketing Communications Chairperson (blogmaster) handles the creative and production of publicity items for theater show advertising campaigns and also handles BCP’s web site. In other words, other volunteers do the grunt work and you get all the cool stuff! You get to call on current and potential advertisers, you work with the Creative Director to think of cool things for BCP to do, you dream up new and exciting ways to increase revenues–in other words, you’re in the middle of all the action!

BCP Has A New President!!

Boquete is one of the most active, volunteer-oriented communities that this blogmaster has ever seen. Why? Because of wonderful and talented people who donate their time and expertise to make Boquete a better place.

Two of these people are Dave Ross and Rhody Edwards. Dave is BCP’s outgoing President and has faithfully served for two years. Dave has done a fabulous job in moving BCP forward as our community continues to grow and are extremely grateful for his service. Thank you, Dave! (Insert round of applause and standing ovation here!)

However, two years is a long time to serve, and the Council has shortened positions of service to one year. Therefore, for the next year, BCP’s new President is Rhody Edwards. As President of BCP (the principal executive of the Foundation Council), he coordinates and manages the activities of the Foundation; presides at all meetings of the Foundation Council; conducts all general, special or annual meetings of the Foundation; oversees the business activities of the theater and events center; assures Foundation compliance with contractual obligations; and, acts as the public face for the organization.

You have seen Rhody at BCP events for years. Here’s a bit of his background:

Our New President, Rhody Edwards

While living in Kailua Kona, Hawaii Rhody met and married Lane Suarez, whom most of you know as one fine vocalist who often performs on the BCP stage. As they began to search for a more affordable place to retire, they came across Boquete and just had that feeling that this was the right place for them (sound familiar??). Rhody and Lane live waaayyyy up in Jaramillo with their two dogs, Mitzi & Zena and Jet the cat.

When BCP leased and began renovating the facility, Rhody volunteered for a few days work pressure washing the roof….that turned into 4 months of doing whatever needed to be done to get the building up and running. It was a lot of work, but also fun, since he has always enjoyed doing various construction projects as a hobby.

Although Rhody had no background in theater or musical projection prior to getting involved with BCP, he thoroughly enjoys the part he takes in a variety of musical productions at BCP. His love of this started about 5 years ago when the Boquete Community Chorus had no accompanist. He was at a rehearsal and after looking at the musical score, he thought he might be able to help. The rest is history…..he has provided musical accompaniment for all of the community chorus productions, the 50’s and 60’s shows, the BCP Grand Opening, the Boquete Cabaret, BCP Does Broadway, The Boquettes, The Chiri-Keys, Serenade, Spaghetti & Sweets plus many more.

Rhody’s vision for BCP is that it becomes the most sought after facility in Chiriqui for different types of functions and productions. He hopes that many people will step up and volunteer and contribute….with their talents, time and finances so that BCP can continue it’s mission of providing a cultural and artistic space for ExPats and Panamanians alike.
