A very large attendance of members appeared today at the BCP Theater & Events Center to vote for the new council positions of Vice President and Secretary. So….CONGRATULATIONS Sandi Stephens (our new Secretary) and Jerry Wager (our New Vice President. And, CONGRATULATIONS to those who stepped forward to serve, and were unopposed; Dave Ross – President, Jerry Gaspard – Treasurer, Vicki Phelps – Operations Director, Penny Ripple – Marketing Director and Leara Clausing – Creative Director.
Because of the need for expanded Council responsibilities brought about by the lease of a permanent facility, ByLaws of the Boquete Community Players Foundation were changed just prior to the announcement of the elections. These changes eliminated some positions and created others, so that the business of the building could be addressed.
In addition, terms of the President, Secretary and Treasurer were extended to 2 years (instead of the 1 year term of all the other positions). This change will allow a continuity in the Council next year, when the 1 year positions expire. With the addition of the business entity of running the building, it is important that a continuity exist so every council member isn’t new, and thus required to learn everything all at once. We really appreciate Dave Ross, Sandi Stephens and Jerry Gaspard agreeing to serve for 2 years in order to ensure this continuity.
We want to thank Jack Bute (candidate for Vice President) for both his willingness to run this year and for his wonderful contribution this past year in running our building operations…..and to Judi Isham (candidate for Secretary) for stepping up to be nominated. Both of these candidates were excellent choices and received lots of support. But alas…as in all elections, there is always a winning candidate and we know Jack and Judi will lend their support to them in the future.
Thanks to all those who showed up to cast their ballots, and those who voted absentee ballot because of their inability to attend in person. BCP is very fortunate to have such a committed group of members! Thanks to you all….candidates and voters alike.
Terms of office begin on September 1, so be sure to congratulate and thank all those involved in today’s election. Jerry Wager was in the US today and was unable to attend, as was Penny Ripple. Jerry Gaspard will be spending September in the US and will assume his duties upon his return around October 3rd.
Finally, we thank the Council who served in 2009/2010, especially because of their incredibly difficult work of renovating the theater and facing the challenges of the redesign of the work to be done. Those include Julie Cacianti, Dave Ross, Jerry Hedrick, Bob Johnson, Lane Suarez, Mary Lynah, Susan Thoms, Erin Ross and Sandi Stephens. We all appreciate you!!!
