BCP COUNCIL MEETING
MAY 18, 2010
Dave and Erin Ross, Bob Johnson, Susan Thoms, Mary Lynah, Sandi Stevens were present for the council. Vicki Phelps and Penny Ripple as managers were also in attendance, along with four other members. Sandi read the minutes of the last meeting which were approved.
Erin reported that we have 255 members, and that late notices have been sent out. A packet of membership materials is on top of the fridge for use by members of the council.
Dave reported that the water diversion culvert is complete. Jack and Xavier get the credit. We will need a grate over it to prevent accidents. Bob reported that the welder can fix the back door and the front gate. Penny Ripple has two splits for sale at a greatly reduced cost of $250 each. The contract is done for the parking lot. Sabino is no longer employed. He was paid his vacation, decimo, and notice. Dave said that Jack, Dave and Bob are on the security sequential call list.
18 people including Panamanians came to the last Karaoke night. There will be more publicity for the next event.
Aug 2-4-6 Hospice will use the Hex Room for training. Narin will do a children’s event on July 18. A child prodigy will perform in the theater on sax and classical piano in June.
Bob reported that our balance is dwindling, but that we are still in the black. Lane has the exact numbers.
Bob and Penny are working on sponsorship names displays to put up in the hall. Penny gave the council members a handout on this project.
The cost of the theater for the appearance of the ambassador will be paid by Rotary at $1 PP. Attendees will not be charged anything. Penny will correct this on Noticias and on the blog.
Bob has been working on the bylaws changes. Publicity will be added to Marketing and two positions will be renamed. There was discussion about bylaws, elections, and policy and procedures. Mary will work with Dave on the policy and procedures.
Penny asked that documents be send to her by e-mail, stick, or CD. These should not go to Lane as Penny will be loading them on the new BCP computer.
We have been asked to host a movie night, or take over the Fundadores movie night. Dave will talk to Howard and Al Mills.
Purchase of two banners was approved, one for membership and one for upcoming events.
Leera, a new arrival to Boquete, has professional theater experience on and off Broadway as a director and entertainer. She would like to produce and/or star in a production of her play, which would need seven actors, some of whom need to sing opera. Susan and others will review her play for appropriateness for our theater and performers.
General meeting will be June 3.
B4B wants to borrow our coffeepot. Council policy is that we do not loan our stuff. Erin said they can borrow hers.
Janet Hartley-Wakefield wants to resurrect the yard sale. We have already voted to lay this down, and her proposal was not met with enthusiasm.
Meeting adjourned.
Mary Lynah, Secretary
