Welcome Jerry Hedrick, to the BCP Gratitude Corner. Jerry has been involved with BCP since its early days when he co-starred in Boeing, Boeing, and went on to perform in Reading Aunt Louise’s Will, The 60′s Show and The 50′s Show. Jerry went on to become Treasurer of BCP in 2007 and then was elected President in 2008 and Vice President in 2009.
If we wanted to name the single most influential person in getting the new BCP Theater & Events Center established and opened, it would be Jerry Hedrick. Not only did he negotiate the lease of the building, he then became project manager for the theater complex development. In that capacity, he pulled together a list of activists who made financial, time and material contributions to make the theater and events center happen. He also was instrumental in bringing the Tuesday meeting into the facility and encouraging the Tuesday market, Rotary and Hospice meetings as recurring events. In order to create more community gatherings, he reestablished the monthly friendship potluck dinners, a monthly Karaoke, Last Saturday Swap meet and a concept, yet to be developed, for meetings of BCP Activity Clubs.
Along with many, many other volunteers on the renovation team, he did things like pull wire in conduits, taping of the service hallway drywall seams, patching up the holes in the Hex room ceiling, prep & paint on the brown floor, did the foam ceiling panel work, meaning gluing the wood stiffeners to the back, gluing the aluminum foil to reflect the radiant heat and painting the room-side of the panels, sometimes more than once when there were color changes. With the help of others, Jerry scrubbed off a decades worth of cooking grease on the kitchen ceiling and painted the Hex room ceiling, several times and installed the ceiling panels that make the acoustics so good. He did a lot of “go-fer” this & that, and financially supported design, fabrication and installation of the ventilation system. Jerry even applied the final touches of gold paint to the BCP on the entrance doors.
So, if you are loving having the new BCP Theater & Events Center and want to express appreciation to someone who was pivotal in its creation, next time you see Jerry, stop him and say “Thanks, Jerry Hedrick….we appreciate you!”
