U.S. Ambassador Visit a Success

Yesterday the U.S. Ambassador Stephenson visited the BCP Theater & Events Center as one of her final stops before leaving her Panama post en route to London, England where she will assume the State Department’s highest office;  that of Minister.   Mrs. Stephenson began her diplomatic career in Panama many years ago, and has enjoyed a very successful career in posts all over the world before returning to Panama as Ambassador.

Her visit included meeting one of Boquete’s young people, Rodny Moreno (named after his baseball hero Rod Carew).

Rodny learned to speak English when he was being treated at the Shriner’s Hospital in Louisiana.   Both the Rotary Club of Boquete and the Boquete Handicap Foundation are supporting Rodny in completing his education in David.    He lives in Potrerillos with his family and is just one of many Panamanians who benefit from the good works of the four charities that receive funds from the annual Bid4Boquete Charity Auction.  Ambassador Stephenson presented Rodny with a check from Rotary Boquete that will allow him to finish high school.

The Ambassador is presented with a gift of locally grown Ruiz Coffee.

Following her presentation, Ambassador Stephenson visited the site of the soon to be completed Boquete Library, where she walked all the way to the top to look over the beautiful valley.    We all wish her well as she begins her new post in England, and look forward to learning who will replace her in the Panama post.

Ambassador Stephenson’s visit was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Boquete.
